When it comes to designing a home, few details are as important as the front entrance. This is an owner’s first chance to set the tone for their house. Whether they are formal, modern, rustic or casual, the front entrance is their opportunity to make a great first impression.
And in the South, nothing says, “come on in” like a giant front porch leading to a the house.
One of my favorite front doors – this porthole was taken off a sunken ship in South Florida and mounted on this custom made door. A few barnacles were left on the glass for some extra fun.
Here we are a little more traditional as opposed to the classic “beach cottage” look seen above.
As you can tell, gas lanterns and easy chairs are also a mainstay on a Southern porch.
